Impartiality Policy

Version 1.0 · June 2026 · Approved by ERCA management

Impartiality is fundamental to the value of an ERCA certificate. This policy sets out how ERCA safeguards the independence and objectivity of its certification activities.

1. Commitment

ERCA is committed to impartiality in all certification of persons. Certification decisions are based solely on objective evidence of a candidate's competence against the published scheme — never on commercial, financial or personal pressure.

2. Separation of certification from training

Examination and certification are kept independent of training delivery. A person who has provided training to a candidate does not decide that candidate's certification. ERCA has adopted this separation in its internal rules and enforces it in its processes.

3. Identifying and managing risks

ERCA regularly identifies risks to impartiality arising from its activities, relationships and those of its personnel. Where a risk is identified, it is eliminated or minimised, and residual risk is documented and monitored.

4. Safeguarding mechanism

A mechanism for safeguarding impartiality (e.g. an impartiality committee or equivalent oversight) provides independent input on the operation of the certification scheme and on impartiality matters.

If you believe any ERCA decision was not impartial, please use our complaints and appeals procedure.
